National Trauma Walk 2025: A Triumph in Advancing Trauma Care Awareness

The National Trauma Secretariat is elated to celebrate the resounding success of the National Trauma Walk 2025, held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. This landmark event was graced by the participation of Hon. Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa, Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services and Chair of the National Trauma Secretariat, Representatives from World Health Organization- Country Office for Sri Lanka  and distinguished consultants from various medical specialties, whose presence amplified the event’s impact. Together with hundreds of participants—healthcare professionals, survivors, families, and community advocates—the walk was a powerful morning of unity, action, and hope, starting at the Accident Service – National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL) and culminating at Independence Square, Colombo 07.

From 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, the street of National Hospital of Sri Lanka to Independence Square , Colombo -07  buzzed with energy as participants of all ages walked in solidarity, united by a shared mission to raise awareness about trauma prevention, pre-hospital care, treatment, and survivor support. The presence of Hon. Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa and Dr. Asela Gunawardena underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening trauma care systems, while the involvement of consultants from multiple specialties highlighted the collaborative effort needed to address trauma’s far-reaching impact.

The walk was a vibrant platform for education and inspiration. Heartfelt speeches from trauma care experts, survivors, and distinguished guests, including Hon. Dr. Jayathissa and Dr. Gunawardena, moved attendees with stories of resilience and the urgent need for accessible trauma care. These powerful messages emphasized the profound effect of trauma on countless lives and the importance of collective action to enhance Sri Lanka’s healthcare systems.

Designed with inclusivity and safety in mind, the event featured first aid stations and hydration points along the route, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all. Community organizations were also present, offering resources and fostering connections to support trauma care initiatives. These interactions sparked meaningful discussions, paving the way for future collaborations to bolster trauma care across the nation.
